With Birmingham set to host the Commonwealth Games 2022, three Team England athletes joined BBC presenter Gabby Logan today to encourage inspired locals to #GetActiveBrum at a sports day, following the recent National Lottery grant totackle physical inactivity in Birmingham and Solihull.

Hosting the event alongside former gymnast Gabby, who competed at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, were Team England’s badminton stars Chris Langridge and Chloe Birch as well as silver medal winning basketball player Siobhan Prior.

Local people who came along to the event at Birmingham University on Monday 25 March 2019 were able to try their hand at four Commonwealth Games sports: Netball, Badminton, Wheelchair Basketball and Basketball, with Team England’s athletes supporting the sessions, offering expert tips and advice to locals taking part.

Following the news that nearly one third of Brummies exercise for less than 30 minutes a week, The National Lottery’s #GETACTIVEBRUM campaign hopes to encourage Birmingham locals to be physically and socially active.

Sport and activity has the power to transform lives and help people feel more connected and resilient and the National Lottery want to encourage locals to grab any sporting chance they can.
