Tai leads the way at the Para-swimming World Championships

Alice Tai capped an incredible week in London at the Para-swimming World Championships, as she collected her seventh gold medal of the week in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Tai, a double-medallist from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018, proved the catalyst as her efforts in the final leg saw her overtake Canada, the United States and China to eventually win by 0.74 seconds.

“This is a great way to end the week," the 20-year-old said. "To have two of the golds with these women is incredible and I'm super happy this is how it has ended.

"I could just hear the crowd going crazy so I knew I just had to go and win it for us and for the country and I am so glad.”

Elsewhere across the week, there were also medals for Thomas Hamer and Ellie Robinson as Team GB finished with an impressive medal haul to sit second in the medal table behind Italy.

Team England boxers progress through the weekend

It was a clean sweep for Team England’s boxers who were in action at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Russia over the weekend, as three fighters secured unanimous decisions to progress into the next round.

Galal Yafai was first up on Saturday afternoon in the Men’s Fly category, as he took on Australia’s Alex Winwood.

All five judges scored it unanimously in the Team England boxers’ favour, which proved to be a sign of things to come as Peter McGrail (Men’s Bantam) and Cheavon Clarke (Men’s Heavy) beat Korea’s Yechen Lee and Belgium’s Victor Schelstraete by the same result on Sunday.

The preliminaries continue today as Pat McCormack and Fraser Clarke, both Gold Medallists for Team England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, both begin their World Championships campaigns.
