Zharnel Hughes heads to his third Commonwealth Games as the fastest British man in history.
Born on the island of Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory, Hughes heads to his third Games with eyes on adding to his impressive Commonwealth collection.
He has twice won gold as part of the men’s 4x100m relay team, at Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022, also earning silver in the 200m in the West Midlands.
That came four years on from being disqualified in the event in Australia, having crossed the line first.
After Birmingham, Hughes wrote his name into the history books, breaking both the men’s 100m and 200m British records in 2023.
He backed that up by winning 100m bronze at the 2023 World Championships, his first individual global medal, adding to his relay silver and bronze won in 2019 and 2022, respectively.
He also claimed relay bronze at the 2024 Olympic Games, while he is a four-time European champion, including winning 200m and relay gold in 2022, as well as 200m silver.
