Singles star Toby Penty has been a mainstay of English badminton for much of the last decade.

And in Birmingham 2022, Penty reached the quarterfinals of the men's singles competition before bowing out to India's Srikanth Kidambi.

Having made his England debut at the 2012 Thomas Cup, the southpaw shuttler has won five international tournaments including the 2017 Scottish Open.

Penty was diagnosed with alopecia in November 2018 that caused him to lose every hair on his body, and he used badminton to rebuild his self-confidence.

He reached the Olympics in Tokyo and produced some of his best badminton in a group stage win over world bronze medallist Kantaphon Wangcharoen before exiting in the round of 16.

Penty retired from international competition in 2022 after over a decade of success on the court.
