Sally-Ann Lewis-Wall’s sporting career first started on a different lawn, having been a professional tennis player, line judge and umpire.
But after her eyesight deteriorated, she took up bowls for the first time in 1987 on the recommendation of her grandfather, who had also played at her club Kingscroft BC in Leicestershire, and has not looked back since.
Lewis-Wall has tunnel vision and can only see approximately four metres ahead, so relies on her director Elizabeth Shipley to “be her eyes”.
Having picked up the sport again after a break in 2003, Lewis-Wall has been honing the art for 23 years, leading to plenty of success as a prominent figure across para and non-para bowls.
In particular, she had a memorable 2025, winning para-women’s gold at the inaugural World Bowls World Cup in Malaysia and a bronze in the para-mixed pairs event.
She will hope to continue that success in her Commonwealth Games debut.
