After initially taking up boxing to get fit for football, which he played at county level, Lewis Richardson won bronze at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

That came after winning silver in the 2022 European Championship in Yerevan in a stellar year for the Colchester-born boxer.

The Essex-born star was Britain’s foremost male middleweight for the Tokyo Olympic cycle but sat out most of 2018 with three stress fractures to his back and failed to qualify for the Games.

Richardson won his first major medal with silver at May’s European Championships and will hope to add to that at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Boxing
Team England brought 14 boxers to Birmingham, with the group consisting of 8 men and 6 women.
