As an eight-year-old, Freya Colbert attended the British Swimming Olympic Trials as a spectator as competitors looked to seal their spot at London 2012.

Now, she's a Commonwealth Games bronze medallist.

The teenager helped Team England to a brilliant bronze medal in the women's 4x200m freestyle alongside teammates Freya Anderson, Abbie Wood and  Tamryn van Selm.

Such progress would be remarkable for anyone but it is particularly so for Colbert, who has had to balance training and both GCSEs and A-Levels amid the pandemic.

Colbert was back at her desk at Kesteven & Grantham Girls School only a matter of days after competing at the British Swimming Trials, where she had reached three finals, going on to represent Great Britain at junior level.

At the 2022 European Championships, Colbert clinched a medal of each colour in her, sealing her first individual silverware with bronze in the 400m individual medley.

Tom Dean aka “The SubmaDean” followed up his double Olympic triumph at Tokyo 2020 by making history in Birmingham, becoming the first Home Nations athlete to win seven medals at a single Commonwealth Games.
