They say never meet your heroes but that couldn’t be further from the truth for Blaine Ridge-Davis.

As an eight-year-old, the Londoner had a picture of Shanaze Read on the side of her helmet and a little over a decade later, the pair teamed up to win the team sprint title at the 2019 National Track Championships.

Read did not hold back in her praise of her junior partner following that success, insisting Ridge-Davis “has real star quality and will go all the way”.

It’s a prediction the youngster is doing her best to fulfil, with European Championship silver and World Championship bronze earned since that success.

In her maiden Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, she finished fifth in the team sprint.
