Andy Griffiths only took up weightlifting as a means to be able to dunk a basketball.
Very quickly he realised that his future did not lie in dribbling but instead in the clean and jerk and the snatch.
Having discovered the sport in 2016, Griffiths quickly set his sights on earning international honours and did just that for Team England in Birmingham, finishing sixth in the 109kg.
He is the co-owner and head coach of the Pride Performance Gym in Warrington and was first crowned British champion in 2021 in the 109+kg category, breaking the British Senior Snatch record with a lift of 165kg on his way to the title.
His second Commonwealth Games comes off the back of an impressive performance at the 2026 European Championships.
