As Great Britain look set to begin the next phase of their qualifying campaign for the 2021 EuroBasket Championships, we spoke to Team England’s Kofi Josephs about how they have been preparing.

“These pre-qualifiers are very important. We need to start winning more games, and I feel like the coaching staff and everybody that is going to be on the team is going to be well prepared.

“We can go and just take care of games, one by one. It will prepare us and put us in good stead for EuroBasket.”

Great Britain are set to play four games in August against Kosovo and Luxembourg. Team GB must top the group to go on and face EuroBasket hosts Germany, France and Montenegro in the final round of qualifying, where they will need to avoid coming bottom of the group to progress onto the EuroBasket finals in 2021.

Great Britain’s women set the tone when they reached the semi-finals of their EuroBasket Championships in July, and Josephs hopes for more of the same – both in terms of performance, and support.

“The women performed fantastically, the whole country was behind them. I know for sure the men’s team were definitely behind them, supporting them, wanting them to do great.

“It definitely helps us with a little bit more motivation to want to reach that level and perform, so everybody can be proud of the men and the women.”
