Team England’s wheelchair basketballers are in pole position to contend for medals after both men’s and women’s teams were victorious on Sunday.
The women beat defending champions Canada 15-12, while the men also got past Canada 20-10.
It means both teams have two wins from two and sit top of their respective pools.
They will aim for perfect records ahead of the medal matches on Monday, when the women take on South Africa and the men face Kenya.
The women’s squad of Jade Atkin, Lucy Robinson, Joy Haizelden and Charlotte Moore raced into an 11-3 lead and looked fully on control before Canada rallied late on.
They had ultimately done enough to see out victory and Atkin was pleased to come out with the win.
“It was good,” she said. “I think we just went in really hot and took them out straight away.
“They got a bit on it in the second half of the game, but we won, so a win is a win.”
The men’s quartet of Peter Cusack, James Hazell, Tom Harvey, and Oscar Knight then followed suit with a win over Canada of their own.
They made a similarly fast start to lead 10-3 and continued to motor towards 21 despite Canada chipping away at the deficit.
They kept the Canadians at arm’s length throughout to see out a 20-10 win.
“I feel like we got off to a really good start and we came out firing,” said Harvey.
“Our defence was really good. We went 10-3 up, but we kind of fell off there and I felt our intensity dropped a bit.
“We wanted to get to 21, but we're happy to come away with a win in the end.”
The men face Kenya on Monday afternoon, where victory will assure them top place in the pool.
“It's just another game in the group we've got to get through,” insisted Harvey. “We're hoping to finally get to 21 in that one and see what we can do.”
